Therapy Methods

Though I use a variety of techniques and approaches in therapy, most of my clients will receive a trauma-informed, person-centered approach. This involves having a transparent and non-judgemental environment to uncover your own unique needs, perspective, and goals at a pace that feels most safe to you.

In addition to these approaches, I often combine elements from the below to create a customized therapy experience to address your specific needs:

  • Holistic Wellness: understanding that all aspects of your life matter to your overall well-being.
  • IFS / parts-work: exploring the different perspectives that exist simultaneously within us.
  • TF-CBT: teaching about how the brain works while learning relaxation and CBT skills to help safely process traumatic experiences.
  • CBT: learning about the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and choices, and how to change those patterns.
  • DBT: engaging in mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal skills, emotion regulation to help alleviate your symptoms.
  • RO-DBT: how to tolerate uncertainty, respond to changing situations, and learn skills to improve social connections.
  • Interpersonal: focuses on improving your relationships with others as a way to improve your own mental health.
  • Gottman Method: a highly-researched area of relationship counseling with a focus on changing behaviors.
  • Sexual Wellness: reducing shame and improving sexual functioning by resolving obstacles that created these issues.
  • Somatic / Body-based Therapies: noticing the mind-body connection and allowing emotions to fully process.
  • Psychodynamic: explores how your past may be influencing your present day life, such as attachment style.
  • Existential: explores how to create a fulfilling, meaningful life that matters to you.
  • ACT: accepting the present circumstances and identifying your values to make more meaningful choices.
  • Solution-Focused: uncover specific, effective steps to help you get to the future you desire.
  • Strength-Based: identifying resources and skills that can help you reach your goals.
  • Feminist Therapy & Multicultural Counseling*: understanding how societal norms and systemic oppression play a role in your mental health and identity development.
